@Sony When wrong price spoils New Year Eve

Credit- Crooked.stick.co.uk

Its official Sony Tablet S is set to shed some extra flab from existing $499 price tag. The company happily announced $100 price reduction to make tablet survive, at least for few more months. Last week, Blackberry India, too announced, mouth watering price reduction on PlayBook range of tablets. After reading first two lines, your mind must be bombarded with hell number of confusing questions. One must be why I used the term price reduction. I mean, PS VITA is yet to land in states and Europe. But, what we learnt from PS VITA’s Japanese horrific reception is that gamers are reluctant to pay even $250 for quad –core powered hand held console.

Sony might be in terrible position around the world. From T.V business to smart phone tally, they are losing every inch in almost all categories. But their Network division (includes PlayStation devices) is gathering handsome number in terms of sales and profits. Except America, where Xbox 360 is far ahead than PS3, otherwise, Sony’s consoles are doing pretty well. Last year, PS VITA officially made available to eager Japanese consumers. The week long carnival and various other events marked the arrival of PS VITA. The expectation was high from the beginning, at least in Japan. But sadly, the system sold 321, 407 units in its first two days. Then, the drought continues with 72 K units in its second week of sales. Looks like, hand held consoles are thing of past in latest Smart phone world. Surprising, its nearest competitor 3DS sold more in number than Vita’s 72 K number.

@Sony Learning from 3DS launch experience

If you recall, 3DS also had some terrible launch time. Some blame its lack luster gamer titles other blamed its 3DS display. But soon, Nintendo announced hefty price cuts to make 3DS an irresistible deal. Now, its $169 price tag invites all gamers to join 3DS party. With huge number of tempting titles, this console too saw ups and down. Remember, 3DS is successor to celebrated DS range of console. Its predecessor got coveted title of best selling hand held console of all time. Then, why people were afraid to buy 3DS in the beginning. Obviously, any gamer would like to have more and more options. Companies can take advantage of multimedia features or so called 3D features built into gaming devices to marketing their products. But in reality, without respectable titles any gaming console is incomplete. You better start winding up your gaming ambitions.

Though, it’s too early to predict PS Vita’s future. I know, Sony strategies will be completely different in handing Japanese debacle. They need to do something extra ordinary to make Vita on survival mode. Adding more and more god titles, as fast as possible is one option. Another, option could be price reduction and its make some sense too.

Presenting 3DS in gosh “Pink”

Recently, Nintendo of America took a sensible decision by launching “Pink” colored limited edition bundle. The all new bundle would be great for hard core Katy Perry fans, especially teenage guys and girls. The company has set December 4th for its availability. The bundle includes hot chick pink 3DS along with the copy of Nintedogs + Cats. All you need is to visit your nearest gaming store with $169.99 in your hands. I remember, Sony Europe too launched a pink version of PSP back in 2006, for that they had collaborated with pop diva Pink (P!ink PSP).

UPDATE:  Nintendo will going to update 3DS firmware on December 8th. The new firmware update will add 3D movie capture using 3DS in- built camera.

Oh My Gosh

3DS gets Golden treatment

Nintendo is almost ready to fill your Christmas mood with gold, Zelda and 3D graphics.  To celebrate The Legend of Zelda 25th anniversary, the company has come up with a unique bundle. This limited back is set to be launched on 25th November, 2011 in Europe (You heard it right, only for European Audiences). What you get in limited edition bundle?  A copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarnia of Time 3D, beautifully engraved 3DS (looks like true Japanese beast) among other regular stuff.  No word on the pricing, folks. Is it necessary for Nintendo to launch such bundles? In a tight gripped environment like these, limited edition bundle, don’t make any sense. It’s better to discount quality titles rather than launching luxury bundles.

Keep Commenting!!!

Let the VITA begins, starting February 22nd, 2012

Imagine, you are holding PS Vita, on Day 1. How exciting?  Ok. Jack Tretton of Sony announced the availability of PS Vita in USA, Europe, Canada and Latin America. The dashing hand – held console comes with 5 inch OLED display, dual – analog sticks, dual –cameras and front and rear touch panel. As per reports, the console boosts 512MB of ram. With more than 100 quality title under development, this monster is ready to fly.

Of lately, 3DS from Nintendo is selling like hot cakes after recent price cuts. Even games for 3DS, started showing some momentum. We all know that PS Vita is a big beast, packed with stunning graphics. But are you ready to pay $250 / $299?

Smart Phones set to dethrone 3DS in portable gaming tally

Nintendo set to launch " Red Flare " 3DS  in Japan

From Game Boy to 3DS, the handheld consoles played a vital role in our gaming life. Can you imagine a single moment without your beloved DS? If you ask me, I simply can’t live without it. With the coming of Smartphones, handheld gaming space got a major dent, thanks to phenomenal success of Angry Birds among other. Earlier, Nintendo consoles (handheld category) disappeared within hours of its launch, now the situation is different. Yesterday, Nintendo announced that their flagship handheld console touched a millionth mark in Japan. As we know, Japan is home to world’s second largest gaming animals after USA. This little country loves playing games on tiny screens. The original DS took less time to reach a million mark. If we go by latest data, 3DS took 13 weeks to reach a million marks. In the past 5 years, the sales of handheld consoles saw a downward trend.  Though , DS is one of the most popular console after PlayStation 2 but the momentum with which 3DS saw launch sales is no where what we saw at the time of DSi. In case of 3DS, the enthusiasm among gamers was not up to the mark from the beginning. There are many reasons for decline of 3DS hardware as well as software sales. Firstly, 3D as a tech is still in a nascent stage even Nintendo don’t recommend 3DS under 7 years of age. This is where Nintendo lost its most precious customers. I remember, when 3DS launched with much fanfare within few hours of its launch gamers witnessed dizzying headaches. Even media raised this growing issue, which saw awareness among gamers. Secondly, 3DS sales slump saw a huge blow when gamers didn’t get the games of their choice. Thirdly, lack of online store which ultimately a perfect reason to ignore 3DS.

Just before E3 expo kicked off, the company announced 3DS e-shop an interactive place, where gamers can download Gameboy titles, DsiWare and soon to be launched 3DSWare. The company also announced big first party titles such as Mario Karat 3D & The legend of Zelda among others at this years E3 expo. Now a new “Red Flare” 3DS is set to debut on July 14, in Japan. On the other hand, struggling Japanese giant Sony revealed PS Vita pricing for the consumers, which is at par with current 3DS minus 3D feature. In the coming days, we are going to see number of 3D enabled Smartphones from branded manufacturers like Taiwanese HTC & South Korean LG among others. This will mark the end of exclusivity enjoyed by 3DS in past months. Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) has done exceptionally well in the past few months (Japan). Due to strong software line up, the ageing console surpassed 3DS in every space. Though PSP has to be compared with DS, but Sony might not end the production till the time sales gets slow down (in Japan).

E3 2011: The future of gaming Industry

We are hours away from Sony’s E3 press conference & latest internet buzz throw more light on  “PSVITA” logo filed by SCEE. The trademark filed by Sony in Europe clearly matched with the earlier reports circulating on  internet . No word from Sony representatives to rule out or accept the concrete evidence. “PSVITA” or” NGP “will be the main attraction at this years E3 gaming conference. The Tokyo based company will going to announce NGPs official name, price & its availability across the world. Analysts at the moment are divided about the future of portable handheld consoles. If we go by Nintendo’s 3DS below expected market reaction & declining revenue from physical games , this clearly indicated a do or die situation for Sony , who not only facing double competition in handheld space but also in home consoles race. Recently, Microsoft announced Xbox 360’s magical numbers with the media, which clearly indicates Xbox power over Sony’s PlayStation 3.  Besides, suspense surrounding NGP’s official name, the upcoming handheld console will solve the mystery of up scaling of PSP games or backward compatibility for instance. On the other hand, mighty Nintendo is ready to step into the territory of NEXT –GENERATION gaming with “Project Café “. It’s Touch –enabled remote is toast of town at the moment. Some say that the upcoming console comes with a inbuilt projector others say that a kind of ipad in the form of 6 inch screen attached to the remote, which can be de-attach as per consumer needs. A sort of tablet, I suppose. Will that tablet cum remote runs Apps?  Is Nintendo planning to launch an App store? Questions are many like what about the future of 3DS. Are they planning to announce 3DS price cut? The gaming line up looks pathetic at current stage lets hope for the best. For the best of my knowledge, Microsoft will going to announce some new value – added services to boost its Xbox live services. They recently announced that Xbox 360 has become the  leading source for Entertainment activities besides gaming. So, expect some new offers in the form of rumored “Xbox live Diamond “pack for instance looks promising. This years E3 gaming conference is an important event for developer / publisher community. There are multiple events planned to entice gamer’s community. According to E3 boss, they expect more than 45, 000 attendees at this years E3. Amazingly, it’s a great platform for average or middle manufacturer / developers to unveil their technologies under one big roof. I hope we will get to know the future of gaming via E3 2011

E3 2011: THE SHOW MUST GO ON ……

My body temperature is soaring at the moment. If you are a true gamer, you must be in a same dilemma mode. Each past day, we heard some thing unbelievable about gaming industry just like our Solar System. The more you dig into it, the more you going to think about it.  Today, I am going to raise few questions before the E3 gaming conference kick starts:

Here are few obvious questions exploding my mind:

1.     Will Nintendo going to slash 3DS price?

Nintendo never expected such a harsh behavior from its target gamers. I was expecting bleak sales from the beginning. Just to remind you that the company promised a rocking game lineup but where are the games? It’s time to slash 3DS price Nintendo. You cannot blind gamers just on the ground that 3DS is capable of showing true “3D”. Slash 3DS price by $100, still unreachable for many.

2.     NGP or PSvita...confusion prevails

Hey listen up!  Sony... It doesn’t matter whether you name your upcoming handheld console NGP or PSvita. What matters is the capability of the console in terms of gaming .Pricing is still a big challenge in front of Sony. They need to launch console before 2012, if they don’t than assume bad days ahead for PlayStation team.

We will continue with our discussion……….

See you tomorrow…..

Changing Gaming Habits- An Insight View

Credit- MIDWAY GAMES

This mighty gaming company was once the shining name in the gaming industry. Their gaming consoles were a rage among kids even our grand parents rejoiced hanging with notorious Wii. Now the situation is completely different, Justin Bieber fans often skip DS meal. They feel agitated while playing with Wii. What’s wrong with these kids? This could signal bad times for the Nintendo, world’s largest gaming company. I am not saying that they haven’t tried to regain their lost market. This year, we saw the release of highly anticipated 3DS. On the very second day of its release, complaints start pouring about negative 3D effect. This is one of the biggest points why gamers didn’t like 3DS from the day one. Another point which is very relevant in 3DS case is the lack of games. Last week NPD revealed monthly gaming charts, Nintendo’s flagship console Wii sold dipped further with 172,000 units way below its nearest competitors. Surprisingly, 3DS sold a mere 194,000 units. Whom to blame?  To some extent Smart Phones has muscled down 3DS growth. App stores added more fire in 3DS case. If we see the growth in gaming industry, you will be surprised to know that overall gaming as an industry appreciated in terms of revenue. But, the dominant console culture is fading at a much faster rate. Is it the end of console culture? In my opinion, we are going to witness a sea change in the gaming industry. We all know that Tablet market is growing at a much faster rate than console market. The day is very near when we going to see developer community start making games not for a single dominant platform but for masses. Why I am saying this because gaming is still a niche hobby. Whether you buy Wii games or PS3 games, you have to shell $40(avg price) for owning games. One of the finest examples of changing gaming market is the rise of games such as “Angry Birds”. This game not only targets App centric market but also targeted Consoles & now played in Google Chrome Browser. According to Gaz Deaves, Guinness World Records' gaming editor said in a statement "With the never-ending App Store selection and an intuitive device, Apple has created a gigantic new space for itself in the casual games genre that literally brings entertainment to users wherever they may be." The Guinness recently awarded iphone 4 as the fastest- selling portable gaming system.

Sony to launch PlasyStation branded Earphones for ipod obsessed generation

Credit- Sony Japan

Sony is looking pathetically confident these days, at least in Japan. Their 6 years old handheld console PSP is kicking 3DS booty with pride. We all are well aware about Play Station Portables gaming capability (Just kidding). If Sony provides us with games, no one can ignore this adorable gaming platform. Anyways, you guys must be familiar with PSPs music functionality. Honestly, I really like PSP as a music player, but for that you need to use good quality earphones. To highlight PSPs Music capability, Sony Japan has just launched their new line of pretty earphones. Why would you like to buy these earphones? Is it because they are marketed by Sony with PlayStation branding on them? Company claims that these headphones are perfect for your gaming as well as music experience. No word on its global launch. As for now, Sony plans to launch these headphones in Japan (July 21) @ 2, 200 Yen / $27/ Rs. 1214/ € 18.9/£16.61/$AU 25.

iReadyGo is ready to capture NGP audiences

I know you must be agitated with your old PSP. Even 3DS fails miserably, rubbing my eyes every time makes me even more “Boiled “. Is there any solution to my problem?  All your problems end with iReadyGo, the knockoff of soon to be launched NGP.  Ok. What’s so special about this? The handheld is a combination of Xbox 360 & NGP. Hmm…quite interesting, the specs includes 1 Ghz A8 Cortex- A8 processor, 5 MP camera, WIFI/3G, HDMI – out & 8GB /16 GB memory among others monstrous features .  Will it run Google’s Android OS? No information about it pricing & availability. This is not the 1st time, when we came across such an “Alienated” product. Every time, Chinese somehow managed to make Knockoff even before a product got official …..Remember first generation iphone.

Top Gaming devices to kill scorching summers

Credit- Dell Alienware

  • Alienware M14x:  It’s true to say that tablets will soon replace gaming laptops. But at this point of time, you cannot name a single device, which can replace a dedicated gaming laptop. Gaming laptops from Alienware tops our list of best gaming devices. One of the recent launches from Alienware comes with Intel’s latest processor family. The laptop boosts some of the latest innovations like NVIDIA’s Optimus technology. Other specs include 14 –inch HD displays, up to 8GB RAM, 750 GB of Hard Disk space, 2.0 MP front facing HD camera, Wifi. All this at a price of $1199 upwards.

Credit- Apple

  • Apple ipad 2: Next on the list is the very steamy & “Magical” tablet from the House of Apple. Gone are the days, when tablets are meant for “Spoilt Brats”. Now, tablets can do "Everything"  comparable with any average laptops, thanks to Dual –Core processors. And to make tablets even more enjoyable are the built in games. Apple made a distinction in getting games on its first generation ipad. With ipad 2  , the company won gold medal in delivering the true gaming experience to gamers . Why we included ipad 2 in our list? Not because, it’s a fancy piece from Apple. There are other tablets available from Android Brigade, but some how lacks in content delivery. Apple ipad defines a revolutionary mix of Software and Hardware. Go get ipad 2 for as little as $500

  • PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360One of the most intriguing ways to playing games. Thanks to Sony & Microsoft for making console culture popular in American & European homes. With Blu-Ray, Kinect & Move, gamers got to experience, the breath taking visuals in HD 1080p resolution. One cannot imagine God of War, GTA 4, GT5, COD & Halo series without consoles gaming. No other gaming platform gives you the distinctive online services like Xbox live & PSN. If your heart beats for console gaming, choose between PS3 and Xbox 360 depending upon your tastes. Your console gaming passion starts from $300

  • Nintendo 3DS:  I’m sure you’re eyes don’t pain, if you follow instructions written in 3DS menu. Called as successor to the hugely popular DS, the latest handheld console from Nintendo’s stable trying to differentiate between the ever increasing Smartphone numbers and the dominant ios platform from Apple. What makes 3DS a killer gaming console?   Is its glass free 3D capability or gaming line up? You guys complaint about its pale gaming lineup, let me tell u: gaming line will improve as developers starts getting positive signals. The console is still new & fresh, way better than a Smart phone. With dedicated analog stick, backward compatibility, 3D viewing experience will surely makes your gaming experience spectacular. Fun starts from $250.
Credit- Razer

  • Razer Mamba:  PC gaming is incomplete without a dedicated gaming mouse. My pick for this season is Razer’s ultra cool “Mamba”. The company claims this mouse as one of the fastest performing mouse on/off the cord. You also get a charging dock along with the mouse. If you want a luxurious gaming mouse, with “RAZER” engraved on it. Than , get ready to shell $130 for a sexy beast like “ Mamba”

Grand Theft Auto 5 EXCLUSIVELY on Wii 2 ?

Looks like, Nintendo is in love with gamers. To make their relationship little more passionate, they launched 3DS , slashed  Wii price by $30 .  And now, they want more of you in the form of GTA 5.

According to French gaming site Gamekyo , the makers of Grand Theft Auto series are busy making GTA 5 for rumored Wii 2. As per the information, the studio had “development Kit” from some time. If all goes as planned, gamers get to see Grand Theft Auto 5 sometime in June 2012

The site also gives us a rough idea (but vital clue) about rumored Wii 2 specs. The report published in the site says that Wii2 will be more powerful than current generation Xbox 360. Obviously, Wii 2 have to be powerful than PS3 or Xbox 360, than only Nintendo can sail its ship steadily. Another interesting piece of information, we get to know from the French site is that the rumored GTA 5 will going to be a launch vehicle for rumored Wii 2. That means it’s an exclusive property for Wii2. Will Rockstar Games ditch PS3 & Xbox 360 owners trust? Well, it’s too early to give our judgment on GTA 5. But one thing is for sure, this time Nintendo is geared up with heavy hardcore titles like GTA 5 for instance. GAME INTERVAL will continue to provide you with all the necessary details about Nintendo- Rockstar Games partnership.

Wii 3D - Reality or Gimmick

They recently launched their much hyped glass –free handheld console 3DS across major markets.  The Kyoto based company didn’t announce any specific numbers for European territories, but we heard that numbers from UK are not encouraging, may be due to clash with ipad 2 launch. 3DS chapter is over, now get back to Wii; the original money spinner for Nintendo (Yeah! it’s proven). According to Hideki Konno,  the head of the 3DS project said in an interview given to CNN, Nintendo wasn't interested in big-screen 3D until it glasses-free 3D TVs became the norm. What does that mean? We assume that the company is ready with prototype, but waiting for the right time to unveil Wii 3D. With E3, the annual gaming conference approaching fast, the news of Wii makeover is getting stronger than ever. The maker of Super Mario Brothers is feeling pressure from Microsoft & Sony from the past months. Sales for the Wii are down 45% down from the last year. Analyst predicts more downturn for Wii as the console looks bleak in comparison with PS3 & Xbox 360. Earlier Nintendo was the only console, who used to offers motion gaming; but now both Microsoft & Sony offers motion controllers in the form of Kinect & PlayStation Move.

Will Nintendo  announce Wiis successor in coming Days?

Nintendo is a smart company; they know where they lack & how to repair their damage. They might not launch Wii 3D this year, but they are going to launch Wii HD. If they want to remain ahead in home console race, they need to act faster. Now, most of the world has moved from CRT TVs to LED one. And, why would any one like to see 480p resolution in 2011? Both PS3 & Xbox 360 cost $ 100 more than Wii. Why I am not sure about Wii 3D. One of the reasons is PS3s unsuccessful strategy to tap gamers. 3D technology is still new, common people are not familiar with the technology. Further more, there are many disadvantages associated with 3D technology @ present like health issues, costs of owning 3D TVs etc. "Wait-And-See" strategy is best suited in Nintendo’s case. Its not that they don’t want to use 3D technology, they are the 1st one in the industry, who have come up with glass-free 3D tech. 3D has a momentum to become the next big thing in entertainment industry. All, we need is industry support to popularize 3D TECH in a big way.

Peep inside 3DS TV commercial for American Gamers

Nintendo is not known for intelligent advertisements. Their idea is simple in nature, i.e. to attract gamers with realistic gaming. Here, the company tried to highlight 3D capability of 3DS in big way. With games such as Street fighter in 3D, gamers get a fair idea from this advertisement.

The company successfully managed to give a glimpse of so called 3D world via 3DS. With new Motto, 3D & lots of games, 3DS is ready to serve you unlimited & never ending gaming experience.

Take a look at Nintendo’s sweet commercial for 3DS

NINTENDO 3DS: Let the fun begins...

Credit- Nintendo Japan

Just 4 days from now, Japan will going to witness the biggest ever launch of a gaming console. The Company is leaving no stone unturned to make 3DS launch a memorable affair.   From Amsterdam to Tokyo, the whole world is praising Nintendo’s upcoming glass free 3D wonder. Recently, the Londoner’s got a chance to witness 3DS in a special pre-launch event called “Believe Your Eyes”. US retailer Gamestop pegged 3DS as the best selling console, if we go by its pre-orders.  Looks like, the Kyoto based firm wants to repeat the same magic done by Microsoft’s Kinect.

JAPAN MAIL

Credit- SONY JAPAN

It's seems that Japan is in love with Playstation family. According to Famitsu, the Japanese magazine recently came to the conclusion that PS3 had the best games in 2010.The magazine included 516 best rated games of 2010; Sony took the 1st position in home consoles race i.e. 77 of 103 titles (75%) that rated silver or better. Compare that to Xbox 360, which only saw 65 of 97(67%) and the Wii, who had 27 of 43 (63%) rate silver or better. In handheld front Nintendo DS pimps PSP with 8 of 117 titles rated ‘silver’ or better. The PSP by contrast only had 56 of its 130But these figures doesn't reflect Industry numbers, it’s an individual research done by Japanese magazine Famitsu. If we go by sales no, than PSP had a best year, at least in Japan. All credit goes to Monster Hunter series for making PSP the undisputed King in the land of rising Sun.

Credit- Microsoft

The only console which never takes Japan by storm is Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Is there any rivalry between Microsoft & Japanese people?  We believe that it’s a part of their culture. Japanese usually buy MADE IN JAPAN products, so it applies with Xbox 360 as well. Please exclude APPLE in this discussion. The company sold millions of its i range of products in Japan alone.

Now, We turn our attention to world’s largest manufacturer of gaming consoles i.e. Nintendo. The company had a rough year through out 2010 not only in Japan but also across all leading gaming markets. After roaring for 4 years, Wii crashed miserably in 2010. For the 1st time in Nintendo’s history their profits drops in 6 years. All blame to rise of PS3 & Xbox 360, as both launched their motion controller attachments in late last year. Nintendo DS, planets most popular handheld console suffered the most. Now, the company is pinning their hope on 3DS. The company will launch its glass free 3D marvel on February 26th in Japan.
